Dear Friends,
It has been an exciting start to 2024 in Alabaster! So many big projects are nearing completion, and new projects are kicking off. It is truly a great time to be in Alabaster!
Progress is ongoing at Larry Simmons Stadium and Jim “Peanut” Davenport Baseball Stadium—the turf installation on the baseball field is complete, and work is ongoing on the stadium entrances, parking areas, and concession stands, with Peanut Field opened for play in February. The new turf fields at Veterans Park already proved themselves when they hosted the Thompson High School and Marion Military Institute softball teams during rainy January. Also, at the end of January and for the second year in row, Veterans Park was the site for BUSA/AFC’s Winter College Soccer Combine. Coaches from over 70 colleges came to scout 125 participants. Also at Veterans Park, the new playground and pickleball courts are underway.
Finally, finishing touches and final striping are being completed on Highway 119, and new traffic lights and decorative poles were operational at the end of February.
Alabaster’s business community continues to grow and thrive with the addition of Big Whiskey’s American Restaurant & Bar opening this summer in the former O’Charley’s location, and Kiku Asian Food Express open near JC Penney in the Colonial Promenade. The Promenade is also spiffing up and installing new landscaping on the north side of the shopping center.
Last month, we kicked off construction on the city’s new amphitheater and the Senior Center expansion. We are so excited about the addition of this outdoor venue for Alabaster, but please pardon our progress at City Hall as these projects continue.
As a lifelong resident of Alabaster, I’m so proud that I get to be a part of the leadership of the city that is always looking forward and trying to make Alabaster better for all our residents!
Mayor Scott Brakefield
