Dear Friends,
Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe that we have started the last year of this administration’s first term. I am so proud of all that we have accomplished and look forward to all that is still to come.
First, I want to congratulate the Thompson High School Warriors Football team and Coach Marc Freeman on their sixth AHSAA 7A state football championship title! We are thrilled to have the blue trophy back in Alabaster, and we are all so proud of how these young men perform on and off the field.
On January 1, Alabaster—with backup from Pelham and Helena—started running our own ambulance service. Our Fire Department personnel have embraced this challenge so that our citizens will have top-quality emergency response service when it is needed. Thank you to the City Council who voted for the one cent sales tax increase to fund this important service and so many other things that will service our community for years to come.
I am also proud of all the projects that have been completed so far this past year, including the expansion of the Senior Center and the opening of the City Amphitheatre, which will bring another entertainment option for not just Alabaster citizens but our neighbors as well. The money we have put into expanding and adding to our park system has resulted in many more people taking advantage of these outdoor amenities, from Veterans and Patriots Parks to the renovated Simmons Field and Jim “Peanut” Davenport Field.
It is also exciting to see projects starting to take shape with utility and right of way work happening on the site of our future Rec Center and Library, which will truly create a walkable City Center where citizens can come for entertainment and recreational activities. And District 31, which will truly change the face of Alabaster, is underway.
For all of this and more, I am thankful for the people of Alabaster who have trusted me and the City Council to advance these exciting projects. Looking forward to a year of more excitement and opportunity. Alabaster truly is a City Unlimited.
Sincerely,
Mayor Scott Brakefield
