Police and Fire Officers of the Year
Edgar Angel was named the Alabaster Police Department Officer of the Year, and Wesley Lash was named the Alabaster Fire Department Firefighter of the Year for 2024. The officers were recognized in the Shelby County Chamber’s 33rd Public
Safety Awards ceremony.
National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists
Students Charles Lowery and Tanner Reid were named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists. These high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million that will be offered next spring. The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring PSAT and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test entrants in each state.
City Council Round Up Sain Engineering will be helping the city conduct traffic studies to determine the best way to handle traffic flow at the Kent Dairy and 119 intersection.
HPM, a project management company, has been engaged to help the city manage the Alabaster Rec Center construction. The company will offer boots on the ground and help keep the project on schedule and in budget.
On September 23, the City Council approved the city’s $85 million budget for fiscal year 2025. Several important projects are included in this budget, including full implementation of the city-run ambulance service, work on the new rec center and library, the match to help widen Interstate 65, and $7.1 million to support Alabaster City Schools.
