Nicks Auto Repair’s business license was revoked by the City Council based on feedback from the community and recommendation from the Police department.

Larry Simmons Football Stadium and Jim Peanut Davenport Baseball Field have been completely renovated and ready for youth groups both school and community. The fields have and will host tournaments from out of town. The Track around Larry Simmons Football Field is open and getting plenty of use. The main entrance gate at the corner is open and lights are on from dark until 11 pm and back on in the morning around 4: 30 until 7 am.
The Rec Center
The city of Alabaster purchased 24 acres from Alabaster City Schools near the intersection of Highway 119 and Thompson Road to house a new city recreational center, a retail development and park and green space. “We’re so excited to move forward with this plan to breathe new life into one of our most high-profile parts of town and finally have an opportunity to give our residents the recreation center they deserve,” said Alabaster Mayor Scott Brakefield. “This will allow us to continue our vision of creating a true city center including the Police Department, City Hall, Senior Center, entertainment options and future recreation center.” City Council members voted to approve the purchase during their Jan. 24 meeting. Through the agreement, the city will pay a one-time $1 million down payment followed by $350,000 per year for up to 20 years. Through an agreement with ACS, the School Board’s Central Office will move from its current location and into a new location near Thompson High School within the next two years.
The rec center will be ready in approximately 2 and half years. The space will be about 100,000 square feet. Two to three gyms, striped for pickleball and volleyball as well as basketball. Outdoor will have a leisure pool and things for kids, lap swimming etc. A cardio and weight area. Meeting space will be up to 300 and able to host chamber of commerce type events. Daycare available.
Water feature will be outside of the rec center with splash pad.
Indoor walking track.
The rec center will be membership driven.
Enhancements continuing on Buck Creek trail. The trail starts at Buck Creel trailhead behind the softball fields and goes all the way to Warrior Park and now to the YMCA. Lights will be added and paving this fall. Also in the process of expanding the trail to THS.
Ultimate goal: Trail from Patriots Park to Veterans Park.
The library will attach to the Rec Center and be about 20,000 square feet.
District 31
District 31 is planned to be half as large as the Promenade with restaurants, retail and hotel space.

Bub Terrell gets drafted!
Congratulations to Thomson High School Graduate baseball phenom Bub Terrell who was recently drafted in the 19th round to the Toronto Blue Jays. He was also recruited to play on the plains at Auburn. In Terrell’s senior year the outfielder earned the 2024 Shelby County Hitter of the Year title leading the County in batting average, hits, and home runs. He earned a hitting average of .426 with 55 hits and 20 walks against just 17 strikeouts. Terrell was ranked the No. 153 overall prospect heading into the draft by MLB.com. He is projected to play left field though On3 says he could work himself into a first base position.
