Dear Friends,
It’s hard to believe that we’re halfway through summer and just around the corner from school starting again. We’re kicking off July with our fantastic fireworks show at Thompson High School on Saturday, July 1. In addition to festive fireworks set to start at 9 p.m., we’ll have food trucks, bounce houses, lawn games, music, and more.
We’re continuing to make progress on our park upgrades with the recent ribbon cutting for Patriots Park; the renovation of Larry Simmons Stadium (named after longtime, successful THS football coach Larry Simmons) and Jim “Peanut” Davenport Field (named in memory of major league baseball player and local hero Jim Davenport); continued work on the amphitheater at City Hall; and more. We’re also close to wrapping up the water tower restoration project where rust was removed and the tower was painted and sealed to closely resemble its original appearance. We’re excited that it will be a beacon in the community for years to come!
Work continues on the new Alabaster Police Department headquarters, and we are anxiously awaiting the official opening of the facility for our officers. Finishing touches are happening, and we should be celebrating the opening soon.
Finally, before you know it, it will be time for school to start again. We hope that all our students, faculty, and staff have had a relaxing and rejuvenating summer, and we wish everyone luck as the new school year begins!
As always, I am proud to serve this amazing community and look forward to all that is ahead for Alabaster!
Mayor Scott Brakefield
